Although normative data are available for most of our tests, subtle variations in test scores can occur in local populations that are not fully accounted for by such norms.  Thus, to optimize the sensitivity and specificity of test findings.  We encourage researchers, whenever possible, to obtain control data from healthy persons within their local populations who are equated on subject-specific variables (e.g., age, sex, smoking habits, ethnicity, cultural experiences, educational level, etc.).
