Sensonics International

Are your patients having trouble with their senses of smell and taste? Yearly screenings are performed such as eye and hearing exams, but never smell and taste. Now more than ever, smell and taste testing should be regularly performed. Not only is sudden loss of smell and taste a symptom of the novel Coronavirus, but impairment has been linked to other neurological diseases such as Parkinsons and Alzheimer’s.

Sensonics’ products such as the Smell Identification Test™(UPSIT®) and the Smell Identification Test Revised™ (RSIT™) are helpful in such applications. The Smell Identification Test™ has been in practice for over 35 years and has been administered to over 1 million people worldwide in over 32 different languages. Sensonics® introduced a new version of the SIT™ as the odors are more familiar in today’s demographics. Each test showcases 40 scratch-and-sniff stickers. Patented microencapsulated technology allows each scent to be released only when scratched. 10 minutes are needed to complete the test.

If time is limited, the Brief Smell Identification Test® (B-SIT®) may be preferable. With only a 5 minute test time, the B-SIT® incorporates 12 familiar scratch and sniff odors. This test is available in three different odor combinations and has been translated into 15 different languages. Check out the B-SIT®, B-SIT® Version A, and B-SIT® Version B product pages for more details.
